Cool Cafes in Penang Not to Miss

January 20, 2020 by Claire Filed Under: Asia, Food, Food & Drink, Malaysia Leave a Comment

If you’re a foodie planning a visit to Malaysia there’s a good chance Penang is on your list of places to check out.

Penang is an island state that’s just off the north western coast of Malaysia. George Town is a popular spot for tourists to visit in Penang. It is known for its eclectic assortment of architectural styles, cool street art and delicious street food.

While I was staying in Penang I couldn’t help but go cafe hopping. I found so many incredible cafes during my stay. Many of which had so much character to them I had to create this list of cool cafes in George Town, Penang.

Cool Cafes in Penang

Purrfect Cat Cafe

If you’re a cat lover this is the purrfect cafe for you. There’s no more relaxing way to enjoy your coffee than surrounded by cute kitties.

53 Jalan Muntri Georgetown – Open daily between 10am to 9pm

Coffee on the Table

Until my visit to Coffee on the Table I had no idea that 3D coffee was a thing! The coffee was cool and quirky but was also the best tasting coffee I had in Penang.

164 Lebuh Pantai, Georgetown – Open daily between 9am to 7pm

Dolce Dessert

While walking around Georgetown my eyes were drawn to a row of beautiful colourful buildings. I quickly spotted Dolce Desserts and couldn’t resist popping inside. A decision I was instantly happy with when I walked in to see a beautiful display case of amazing looking cakes that actually taste as good as they look!

18 Jalan Kek Chaun – Open Tuesday to Sunday between 12pm to 10:30pm

Pik Nik

This cafe is definitely one of those cool places to hang out at when in Georgetown. With comfy couches, colourful pillows and a great atmosphere you can easily find yourself spending all day here.

Pik Nik - one of the cool cafes in Penang not to miss

15 Jalan Nagor – Open Friday to Wednesday between 12pm and 12am

Caffeine Chemistry

The geek in me instantly fell in love with this place. The name drew me in and I was hooked as soon as I realised the drinks are served in chemistry beakers. If you have a geeky side you will love this place!

27 Jalan Nagor, Nagore Square – Open Thursday to Tuesday between 3pm to 11pm

The Alley

Tucked away down an alley (where else did you expect to find it!), this cosy cafe is quite small but packs in the character. I loved the decorations and the wooden tables.

5 Steward Lane, Georgetown – Open Monday to Thursday between 2pm to 10pm & Friday to Sunday between 12pm to 12am
