With the recent move and catching up on my end of year reviews I’m posting my January 2023 beers roundup way late! But here it finally is! Although if I’m quite honest, this is the round up I haven’t been looking forward to. As I said in last months roundup, that World Cup Beer Box was such a disappointment and at this point I’m just desperately trying to get through it.
If you read my year review post you’ll know that January was spent getting ready to move flats so I wasn’t allowed to buy any new beers. That pretty much meant I was stuck with those World Cup beers and a few decent ones left over from the last beer delivery.

Total Beers
As you can see my total is a lot smaller than usual. It’s half a mixture of not wanting too many of the World Cup beers and half from me working extra days getting ready for the move. This is also the first month where I haven’t had any collaboration beers. That’s definitely a sign that I haven’t had many of my nice craft beers!

The Countries
I actually had beers from more countries than I was expecting for this month. I think this is mostly due to having some left over beers from my advent calendar. Because I work mostly late shifts and split the beers with Boyfriend I don’t actually drink them on their assigned days.
Because of the World Cup box and the leftovers from my Christmas boxes, the majority of my beers for January are English beers.

The Breweries
Considering the low total, the brewery count is still quite high. Again, this is due to the advent calendar and beer boxes. With the variety of beers in both I didn’t end up drinking beers from any particular breweries this month.

Styles
For the second month running IPA – Session beers are top of the list. Like last month, this is due to my beer boxes. Sometimes there are decent sessions but this World Cup box was full of very ‘meh’ session drinks.
What I noticed is there aren’t actually too many stouts on the list this month. Stouts are hit or miss so most common craft beer boxes won’t put them in. A shame really as I love a good stout!

My Favourite Beers
I am genuinely surprised I had any beers this month that I rated 4 or above. When compiling this list I did think I might have to change it and add the 3.75s to the list. As it turned out I have a couple.
4.00 – Amundsen Brewery – Dessert In A Can – Pineapple Upside Down Cake
I don’t know how they did it but this was like drinking a cake. A deliciously strong stout with flavours of coconut, pineapple, chocolate and a hint of vanilla. These dessert in a can stouts never disappoint!
4.00 – The Garden Brewery – Imperial Almond & Coffee Stout
This stout has a lovely strong coffee taste however, I didn’t really get much of the almond flavour. But with such a strong coffee flavour it was almost like drinking an alcoholic iced coffee.
Beers Worth Mentioning
There were actually a few 3.75 beers this month and since these are close to getting top marks it would be a shame not to give them a mention so here they are:
- Atom – Hidden Layers
- Omnipollo – Hypnagoga Pale Ale
- Phantom Brewing Co – Vertigo
- The Drowned Lands Brewery – Even More Terra
- The Kernel Brewery – Export India Porter
- To Ol – Orbital Movement
- Troegs Independent Brewing – Haze Charmer
Where My January 2023 Beers Came From
This is always the question I get asked the most on social media so here are the answers. These are the places my January 2023 beers came from.
Beer Deliveries
World Cup Beer Box
As I said last month, I was so disappointed with this World Cup box which is why I still have some of them to drink. With the company being late to dispatch them I didn’t ‘play’ along with the World Cup so they just became something to drink whenever. And because they generally weren’t that tasty, I haven’t been favouring them!
Beer52 Advent Calendar
Since I don’t have these every day like you are supposed to with an advent calendar, I still had a couple left. I’m actually quite grateful for that as it gave me some good beers in my pile of ‘meh’ beers.
Beers of Europe
I was so grateful to still have some of my beers left over from my last Beers of Europe delivery. Don’t let the name fool you, they sell beers from all over the world, not just Europe!

Beer Shops
7000 Jars of Beer
I love this shop and this was the last month they were my local beer shop within walking distance. Although as I’m not moving too far away they are still my local craft beer shop, just not walking distance anymore!

Taprooms and Pubs
Waterloo Tap
I have been walking past this place for ages saying I need to come in and check it out and I finally did in January. They have a great location for catch up drinks being just outside Waterloo Station and they have a great selection of beers on tap too.
The Grove
I don’t put pubs on this list often as most of the time I visit them for convenience or for meet ups rather than for good craft beers. However, I decided to make an exception this month. They do have a few more standard craft beers on tap but I decided to add them because of a different reason. This was one of my locals pubs in the old flat but more important to me, it was the setting of mine and Boyfriend’s first date. For that reason, I wanted to give a special mention to them in this month’s round up.

There you have it, a round up of my January 2023 beers. While not my most exciting round up, I’m happy to say that February has already had some good beers so keep an eye out for my next beer roundup!
